SDC25-Getting Technical with Technique Junkies

We are so excited today at Stampotique Designer's Challenge! Have we got the ultimate challenge for you today!

Our hostess this week, Monique challenged our team to use a technique on their creation. We decided to take it a step further and what better place to turn than Pat Huntoon of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. Stampotique is teaming up with the Technique Junkies team to create using the Faux Barnwood Technique. We want you to join us this week and you can use the Faux Barnwood Technique or any of the techniques Pat uses on her website. Please make sure to link within your post which technique you are using.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, that I'm really not much of a "techniquey" stamper....lol. That being said, I set off to try to give this technique a go and I have to say it was fun!

I created the Faux Barnboard as instructed by the TJ instructions that I received. I decided to zip up the background a wee bit by stamping Jo's Small Butterfly in Plum ink. I then coloured up Arty with Copic Markers and Cut her out. I used the sentiment part of the Grow Girl Image.
I actually enjoyed making this card from start to finish and who knows, with doing two technique type cards in a month, you may start seeing more!!!!

What are you playing for this week? Oh.....good question! How about we give away 2 prizes this week along with 2 winners??? Pat Huntoon has been very gracious and is giving away one of the Fancy Folds and Motions CDs PLUS a two year, online only subscription (2010 and 2011 issues) for one winner and the other winner will be receiving a $30 gift certificate towards stamps to the Stampotique store. We will randomly draw 2 winners for the prizes before our next challenge on March 9th.

Make sure to stay tuned to the website as both the Stampotique design team AND the Technique Junkies design team participated in this challenge and we will be sharing some wonderful creations using the Faux Barnwood technique over the next 2 weeks here.

So, what are you waiting for????? Get out some papers, some inks, some stamps and join us!

Please remember the following rules when entering this challenge:
1. This is a STAMPOTIQUE ONLY stamps week
2. You must LINK to the Faux Barnwood Technique or a technique from Technique Junkies that you chose to use within your blog post
3. Please link directly to your challenge post, not to your general blog
4. Contest will close at March 8th at 5 p.m. EST
5. HAVE FUN CREATING!!

Outlines Monday Designer Challenge and Product Focus-Liquid Metal Paint and Smooch!

Today's Outlines Design Team Focus is to use Sargent Liquid Metals on your card. I wanted to showcase a few of the products that Outlines Carries, so I also used Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink and Viva Pearl Pen. I'm really not much for using stamping techniques so it really was a challenge for me!!! I'll take you through the steps I took to make this card. I am sort of pleased with the results, but when I have a little extra time to play, i'd like to try it again because I think I could get an even better looking background with Practice~!

With a Dry Brush, I painted some of the metallic paint onto plain black cardstock, making sure to leave some dark areas.

Step two

I then dribbled some of the smooch inks randomly onto the painted areas, working it into the paint with a dirty brush.

Just a little note: The Lime Ink took on a goldish appearence..........this is what the background should look like when done!

Step Three

Ink up your stamp with Versamark Ink, apply embossing powder and Heat with your heat gun

Step four

trim your image and complete your card. I would also say that the next time, I would take a fine brush and make sure all the embossing powder is brushed off the background so that it shows through a little better!

As you can see in the first photo, I added accents of Ocean Smooch to add a little more oomph to the image, I filled the Hearts in with Sugarberry and added some Viva Pearl Pen peals to the Butterfly wings!

As I said, I'm not usually all that into techniques, but this one was fun and now I'm challenged to perfect it!!!

Make sure you follow the links on the DT sidebar to get some other great ideas for using Metallic Paint in your stamping projects!

Happy Stamping!

Inspired by Carla

Carla is an AMAZING Stamper! Have you seen her blog? If not, you really should follow her.....I just love her style! She can add layer upon layer to her cards and they are perfect! Not cluttered.......perfect!

I am a follower of her blog and have been a fan of hers from the first time we met.......yep! I'm fortunate to say that I know Carla personally...........in fact, I've been her dealer in the past! The first time we met face to face was in the parking lot of a McDonalds! With descriptions of each others vehicles I watched for her arrival.........one look over my shoulder and I slipped into the front seat of her car and introduced myselfT! She wiggled with excitement to be receiving this package and I was just as excited to deliver................two fellow addicts.............dry hands and inky fingers..............the telltale signs of a Rubber Stamper!!! The Package? Several sets of Stampin' Up! Stamps

As we sat in the front seat of her car over a rubber cutting tutorial, we giggled at the funny nature of our meeting and made plans to hook her up soon with more supplies........perhaps we'd even enable some of her friends! I can't remember if I introduced her to Splitcoaststampers or if it was the other way around, but I do know that next to her, I was probably the most excited person to hear that she had been invited to be a part of the Dirty Dozen! See from that first meeting in the parking lot, I knew she'd be a renegade!!!! .....Anyway, she continues to inspire me with her beautiful creations........and I think that you will be equally inspired!
