Day Three.........the cat is outta the bag! The Pink Cat, that is!

I am SO hoping that you have enjoyed the sneak peeks for the new Pink Cat Studio release. I have been waiting in anticipation each day to visit the Designers Blogs to see the beautiful cards and projects that they have created and I have to say WOW! What a talented group of women. I think that with day three embarking on us, the cat is surely out of the bag. Have you seen sweet Kiki in all of her costumes and themes?

Balloon Kitty was a very unusual colour theme for me. It's interesting because when I was stamping with my best girls a couple of weeks ago, they were asking me where the ideas come from, or what process do I go through to "build" cards. It just happened to be that on that particular day, I was colouring a whole bunch of images. In that case, I match my cardstock and designer paper to the image that I have coloured. In the case of Balloon Kiki, I started out with the Designer Paper from the DCWV Pet Stack and then coloured my image to match and used Celery and Cameo Coral Cardstock to compliment the colours in the DP. This is certainly not one of my favourite colour combinations, but definitely and "out of the box" card for me. I used some of that "fuzzy" ribbon that I ordered from the SU winter mini catalogue. I must say that when I first received the ribbon, I wasn't very fussy for it, but after using it on a few projects, I can't get enough of it! It's hard to see in the Picture, but I added a little Crystal effects and glitter to the green balloon to give it some pizzaz!

I have to tell you that I think that this little card has to be my favourite of all the cards I created for the sneak peeks. To me, it has a bit of a vintagy feel, with all the sponging and sweet Lily and Billy put me in mind of the "Campbell's Soup" looking Cherubic characters that you used to see in Vintage type cards.
It's funny because my dear Grandma (missing you G.G.! as you watch over us) was a bit of a packrat and I beleive that the last valentine that she send to my son, who was 10 at the time, was a gorgeous vintage valentine that she had held onto over the years. She SO loved her cards, both giving and receiving them. For Christmas, for the four years that I was stamping before she passed, I would make her a big stack of cards to send out to friends and family. In terms of keeping cards, she had every card that anyone had sent her over the years.
In her last months, she went through all her cards and saved her favourites in a box (and it was a BIG BOX) that she insisted that had to go with her when she passed. As I said my final goodbye to her, the last thing I did was place a special card in her hand, because she loved her cards so much and I loved her more. Gosh, it's funny what can come to mind when a picture triggers a memory...........this paragraph was unexpected, so thanks for listening and sharing my memory.
For this Card, I started with a base of red, based on the images that I had coloured, and then added this sweet musical note paper from October Afternoon. I sponged in quite a bit of creamy caramel ink around the image and the DP to give it that vintagey look. Colouring with copics allowed me to get the rich reds that I was looking for. I used the scallop square punch and mounted it on a diagonal underneath the main image to simulate the look of a heart. I mounted the sentiment onto a brown button........made me think of one of those chocolate wafers.....mmmm. Some wide and yummy Chocolate Satin Ribbon completes the look that I wanted.
I am so excited to be a part of the Pink Cat team! Just wait and see what Melissa has in store for you next release....................soooooooooooo exciting!!!!!!
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'll be back tomorrow with a new Riley image!

  10. These cards are gorgeous again Vicki. Love the vintage style in the Billy and Lily card and love how you coloured Kiki. Thank you for sharing your story about your Grandmother. I think it's so wonderful that someone would save all the cards she ever received and want to them even after she is gone. I think older people often appreciate those little things much more then most young people do, I love that appreciation of small but important things.
