Triple Threat! ****BLOG CANDY CONTEST*****

Betcha that title caught your attention!!! What is the threat, you may ask? Well stamping can actually be dangerous at times. There is always the risk of cuts; paper cuts, those nasty scrapes you can get when you put your finger underneath the Fiskars Slider Blades and ohhhhhhhhhhh I just shudder at the thought of what could happen with one of those guillotine type cutters!!!

Now before I learned to place my paper ON TOP of the Background stamp, there was always a risk of spraining an ankle whilst stomping on top of the Stamp; as you placed it on top of the paper, on the floor to ensure you got the best impression................................Ever came close to taking out an eye with a flying eyelet? Or hammered your finger rather than that stupid eyelet setter.

I have a friend that badly injured her left Breast once in a Cropodile.........she says the swelling didn't go down for days, but That my friends, is a story on it's own. I am sure that I can go on and on, but I do have to go to work.................

So, I would love to hear about your best stamping mishaps. Please submit a comment before this Sunday..................On Sunday I will do a random drawing for a Mystery Prize.................Believe me, it's not a mystery because it will be so enchanting. It's a mystery because I just thought this whole thing up and haven't had time to think about what I will give away. I know it won't be a Mercedes Convertible or anything, but I think I can come up with something decent!!!!

Now back to what started this whole Triple Threat thing. I didn't have much time for stamping this week and I was getting behind in participating in my Splitcoast Challenges. So I combined three challenges into one card. The sketch and colour challenges were combined with the ways to use it challenge, which was actually to use retired Stamp sets. I used Nice and Narrow and Simple sayings 11. Nice and Narrow was a rather understated set, however I saw many beautiful cards designed. The patterned paper is from Crate Paper designs. It is wonderful paper with a rugged texture.

What do you think about the Flower Frame. You can find the instructions for this cool commodity here

Stampin' Inspirations is a very nice blog. You may want to take some time to visit. Thanks Leigh for bringing this fun technique to my attention! The leaves for my flower are made by punching a small oval, inking the leaves quite heavily and scrunching and shaping them.

So really, there was no threat of harm last night when I was making this card. I was thinking of calling this post a hat trick, but since I referred to that last week, I think that it is only fair to subject my readers to a one time application of a cheesy line!!!!

Well, if I don't break away from this computer soon, I may have to forgo a shower in order to get to work on time. Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea, I would get more done for the lack of visitors popping into my office to chat!!!!

So, Have a Fantastic Day and PLEASE PLEASE post your stamping Mishaps!!!!!! I am stuck home tonight and could use the entertainment!!!!!!

  1. love this card and the paper is awesome!! I agree about the possible mishaps - I've had my share of them!! While cutting a piece of cs with the paper snips - it's best NOT to do so while the paper is resting on your lap (unless you are a good seamstress!). I've also given myself many 'pierced' fingers from the paper piercer. Smashed my finger with the hammer, nasty paper cuts OPENING paper packs (don't ask! :), etc. Yep - I truly think there should be some sort of hazard pay for us!!! :D LOL

  2. Great card! Thanks for sharing. Don't ya just hate it when you've created the most awesome card and then happen to notice the little blood spot on it. I have also made my share of creations that actually involved blood (darn paper cuts), sweat (my room is HOT in the summer) and tears (yes, nearly cried when I realised that I had blood on the card). lol Just last night I tripped over something laying on the floor in my stamproom (in the process of being cleaned), have missed using the hammer and smashed a finger but fortunately most of my injuries are minor - no emergency room treatments required. lol

Mind you at times I do have a dog that has some stories she could tell. My 80 lb husky/collie mix loves to be under my desk/feet when I'm crafting or at the pc. She has had so many things dropped on her that you would think she'd find a new place to sleep. Not her, she keeps coming back for more. Some day's she is so pretty with all that sparkly glitter covering her. lol Yup! She's a real girly girl and loves the bling!

  3. Great post, Vicki!
I have sewed my finger. Yes, I did.
I have also had my share of paper cuts, and I have, on several occaissions, poked myself with the paper piercer...usually when I am reaching for it!

  4. Like Michelle, I too have sewed my finger... more than once! Probably my worst mishap though, was when I fell off the back bumper of my truck while lifting my stamping/scrapping gear into the back... and hit the towing ball (NO, I wasn't towing a trailer for all my crafting gear :). I ended up with a scrape along my shin, and a bruise below my knee that was awful; hurt for more than a week :)

  5. Well, I've cut myself with an exacto knife. That wasn't fun. Oh, and my long-haired cat laid down on my stickles before it dried! She was a glittery cat for a while! Can't wait to see what other people write!

  6. You know the Mat Pack from SU where you punch holes with the poker? Well, I can't count the number of times I have stabbed right into my hand or finger. I tend to get a little carried away. I think I can punch holes faster than I can. :) I must wind up when I do it, too because it really hurts. :)

And not so much of a mishap, but I think I might truly be the messiest crafter. When I gluing something, I have glue all over myself....hands, fingers, pants and probably my hair. I can really make it look like a tornado came through my room in .04 seconds flat! :)

  7. Hi Vicki!
Thanks so much for offering a prize just for answering a question!

When I was first learning how to set eyelets, I can't count the number of times I smashed my fingers! Oh yes, I held the eyelet with 2 fingers, so 2 fingers got smashed :)

I am now the proud owner of a Crop-a-dile. Hope I don't have the same trouble as your friend had!

BTW...I just love your Graphic Doodles card, using the Modern Grid from Technique Junkies!!!

  8. So kind to share with all of us. So far no stamping inguiries for me. When I alter items and need to use my glue gun I always burn myself though.

  9. I've pierced my fingers before as well as burned my wrist on the hot glue gun. Dangerous hobby! Thanks for the blog candy offer!

  10. would you believe that i have no injuries thus far (i've been stamping for 2 years)...except for of course your occasional paper cuts! great, i probably just jinxed myself!

  11. Besides the evil glue gun (which I don't really use when I'm cardmaking, though), I haven't had any paper crafting accidents yet.
I have crazy glued my fingers together fixing my daughter's toy though. I had to cut my fingers apart with a knife. Ouch.

  12. Well, I'm glad to say I've had no MAJOR mishaps. The worst I've done to myself is cut open my finger because the trimmer blade was new. Well, one time a pair of sharp scissors pierced between my thumb and the nail. It hurt for weeks. Really cool blog, glad I found it!

  13. I haven’t had any real serious injuries to report. I did leave my Stampin Up markers out and my 14th month old daughter managed to get ink everywhere (those darn teeth, she can get anything open). I find my supplies all over the house, it’s like Christmas when I find something that I haven’t seen in a while. I now have my own stamping room and I normally have the door closed, won’t be long until she’ll be able to reach the handle and get in to all my stuff again. I guess I’m just helping another little stamper get started….. it’s addicting for people of all ages!

  14. I have had 2 injuries: The first was after cutting out the entire 54 stamps from "Everyday Flexible Phrases" (Stampin' Up). I went to a friend's house later and realized I couldn't hold my purse on my left shoulder (I'm left-handed). I thought I had somehow dis-located it, but it turns out I had just pulled the muscles all the way up that arm from all that cutting!!! My second injury was just last weekend. I made 100 invitations for my sister-in-law's wedding (with her help), and stamped a big background stamp over 200 times (pushing REALLY hard every time, to make sure to get a good, even print!). The next morning I complained to her that I must have slept funny, because all the muscles from my ribs to the bottom of my stomach really hurt. She said " I'm embarassed to admit this, but I have a stamping injury from yesterday, and my stomach musles are killing me!" Bingo! So I DIDN'T sleep funny after all!

Thanks for this contest - it's truly an original one, and I'm having fun reading all the replies! :)

  15. Well, I have on more than one occasion pierced my finger instead of the paper. I have always said that the paper piercer should be considered a lethal weapon.

  16. great card!!!
The most painful mishap stamping for me is using a hammer. It seems I smash my finger more times than I care to count.

  17. Well at card club this week I had bought these super sharp cuttlebug scissors and we did alot of trimming. I kept seeing this red ink all over my cards and my friends (who was sitting next to me) cards. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Well, what was going on was that I cut my finger with those scissors and bled all over. Talk about embarassing.
Another thing that happened was that my friend Kathy and I were heat embossing out in my dinner room over the carpet and ended up melting the carpet. Guess we learned to make a aluminum foil base to emboss on after that.
    Funny things always happen.

  18. Adorable card. Let me think. Stamping mishaps. I think the worst is just getting black ink all over my hands and walking around for several days looking like I never cleaned my nails!

  19. I've cut my finger quite well cleaning a pair of scissors.
Great blog, I'll be back often.

  20. Vicki, what a wonderful card! Love it! That is so cool that we both did the same triple challenge!

  21. Wow great question. I would have to say piercing my finger instead of the paper and of course cutting my finger with the cuttlebug scissors when I almost dropped them. While of course I had to try to catch them and sliced my finger...but I didn't go on to finishng my card. My most common one is gluing the wrong side of the paper. I just love your card. The colors and layout are just beautiful.

  22. This is hilarious. I have pierced my finger and bled on my card, I have smudged ink all over a nearly completed card, I have untold numbers of cards wrecked by some errant foodstuff on my counters. I think if I ever do really hurt myself, it will be a teetering pile of craft supplies from my never-clean office!

  23. I must admit that I did wind up in the emergency room because of a stamping related accident. This was wel over ten years ago now....before we all had the fancy cutters and we used a good ol' ruler and x-acto knife. I went to cut some cardstock and of course my ruler and finger slipped and I managed to take a slice out of my finger. Pretty big chunk of skin too....scar is still visible.

Now for the really funny part....there was blood. Lots of blood. So much so that my friend and I really did not know how much damage had been done. So, she grabbed some vet tape (it was all she could find) and we headed off to the emergency room. When the dr. unwrapped the vet tape he took my little chunk of skin and said, "what are you saving this for?" and he proceeded to throw my skin in the garbage can. I thought he was going to stitch it back on but apparently my little hunk of finger was not important to him.

That's the worst it has been for me.

  24. SO many injuries, in a variety of ways. The best one though had to be while demosntrating at a workshop, and showing off how great the Craft & Rubber Scissors are by trimming a stamp...and snipping pretty deeply into my finger (the middle finger on my left hand, no less). We had to stop and get a bandaid, and it definitely made the rest of the workshop interesting - that finger hurt pretty badly! But hey girls - look how sharp those scissors are! ;)

I think this was also a workshop where I'd forgotten my Mono, and ended up borrowing some CM adhesive tabs from the hostess. Oy.

  25. The worst thing I have ever had happen is a paper cut. Sorry, not very exciting, I know!

  26. Well, I keep repeating the same injury - I hold my paper in my left hand and cut with my right hand but I tend to cut into that little fleshy part between the thumb and forefinger! And I've done it more than once!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Vicki:

I have made a wee tiny cut on my finger with the blade from the Personal Cutter. Not only did it bleed quite well but I cried! That's how much it hurt.

As for other mishaps, I have started a whole new wardrobe...of "oops" shirts. Ya know, when you lean across the table to grab something and forget about the ink pad sitting on the table and a certain part of the body hits it. Yup, so the first time it happened I just laughingly said to my guests that I wanted to show them how easy it was to decorate a shirt...I added a few other colours on the front of the shirt and they were quite impressed!

  28. I am relatively new to stamping so I have no injury stories to tell. I am sure I will soon though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I used to have the old hammer thingie for eyelets and one night I am pounding away and the head of the hammer does flying off and nearly hit the sliding patio door.

I stopped using eyelets and just got brads until the Cropidile came along.

  30. Okay, mine was an injury on the way back from a stamping workshop(so that should count). I managed to complete sprain my shoulder by pulling my workshop cart up a flight of stairs, and I could do NO stamping for about 4 weeks. I even had to go to a Regional and watch everyone else stamp and not me, boohoohooooooo.

  31. Luv the card!!

Let's just say, from experience, that you can do some serious melting damage to your hair with your embossing gun Ö I'm always wavin' the gun around to see if my image has embossed and apparently (duh!) I scorched my bangs! Right down to the scalp and got a nice blister, too! Thank goodness I wasn't demo'g or anything. Husband still laughs about it when he sees me embossing. Nothin' like being constantly reminded!!

  32. I haven't had too many mishaps, I try not to use an exacto knife if possible, cuz i KNOW what would happen, I am however thankful that the ink will come off because I wear it constantly. One time I was making shrinky dinks with some flowers I had stamped and needed to put the jump rings on to make charms for some cards and just as I thought I had it on it flew off and hit my glasses, thank goodness I had them on. Thanks for sharing

  33. Drinking while stamping is dangerous...you end up spilling the martinis on your work and then in the hurry to wipe it all up, you end up tripping....and who knows what can happen then! Speaking from experience - and I know it's not just me that this happens to!! ;-)

  34. I love your card. Nice details and colorcombinations!

Well..where should I start with all my stamp-related accident?
Before I got my Melting pot, I used to melt Utee in a cofeespoon and with the airgun on full speed. It blew so hard that melted utee flew all over. I still have a scar on my arm and on my thigh from it. Gosh.. that stuff is hot!

I have again and again cut my fingers as I always work with a scalpel. As I don't like to give cards away with bloodstains on them, I have thrown quite a number in the bin. (I now have bandaid close by. Maybe I should need a bloodtransfusion set also?):-) Once I glued six of my fingers together with instant glue as I was putting on some embellishments on a card. One hand was stuck to the other, and I was alone in the house.(Dont know why I used it. Probably because I couldn't find the glue I usually use)I had to cut my fingers apart again which was quite diffecult since my hands where glued together. And of course its the frequent Diet Coke all over my work. Its a fun and different way to color paper.
It's not a single boring moment when I'm making cards.

  35. Love your card! The only mishaps I've had were once while cutting out stamps to be mounted I got a huge blister on my thumb. It was Sell-A-Bration and I hosted a workshop. I cut and mounted about 12 sets that day. And then there's that dreaded heat gun burn....Thanks's for the give-away.

  36. What a fun card!! I am one who holds ribbon spread between my thumb and ring finger and first and second fingers and on occasion, I have been known to cut the web between my fingers. :( I am a natural klutz, however, and do stupid things like that all the time. LOL!

  37. So far no big crafting injuries for me. My husband swears I will injure my back one of these days when I pack "a few things, for one little project" when we go to our cabin. LOL! It's possible, that tote weighs a ton by the time I have everything I need. Jenny

  38. i get a LOT of paper cuts... and once the blade came off of my paper cutter and i cut myself on it. nothing too major though... :)

  39. Hi Vicki!
Thanks for the chance to win your mystery prize!

Fortunately, I can't top your friend's story about the Crop-a-dile.

I usually get injured when I try paper piercing. That is one sharp tool :(

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well I can tell you I have burned my fingers a number of times with embossing powers, until I found out I can use some flat grippers to hold the paper instead of my fingers while heat setting it.

  41. Well, after the paper cuts, the only thing I can think of is the time I tried to see if my papercutter tab was sharp. It didn't seem to be, so I continued to brush at it to remove the paper bits and continued on. Then the pain hit. Apparently it was so sharp that it was slicing my thumb and I didn't notice. It's amazing how much 7 or 8 cuts in the same area can hurt! God bless. Linda

  42. Love your triple challenge card....I mean, every little detail, but especially the gorgeous paper and colors. TFS
Do I have to share my cuts? I have had my share of scissor and paper cutter cuts. None life threatening, but I was a little embarrassed when I cut my self "twice" while showing my newbie to stamping friend "how to" cut paper on her new paper cutter. Happy stamping all, Nancy

  43. We'll what excitement happening on this blog, a fellow CDN stamper sent me your way and what an awesome blog it is:)
We'll have had my fair share of cuts but, I seem to have a reall problem opening ink pads, breaking them apart and sending the ink part flying and hiting a fellow stamper... ruining a card and a table in the process... thank goodness for that awesome cleaner so all the ink came off of table and out of clothes:) Happy Stamping!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, I've been cut LOTS of times. By my cutter blade, my scissors, my exacto knife...and of course...paper! But, what is worse is I have a disc problem in my mid back and stamping absolutely aggravates it. NOT fair. :-(

  45. I love your card! Great color combination, love the cute flower frame, and the layout!
My most embarassing mishap was at my very first Stamp-a-Stack workshop.
I forgot to bring my paper piercing tool from the tool kit, so I substituted a metal yarn needle I had. The first person who used it,was having a hard time getting it to go through the 2 layers of card stock. So...she put her thumb on top of the needle and pushed hard!!! She ended up pushing the needle through her thumb and fingernail!! Ouch! I
had to pull the needle out of her finger for her, and amazingly enough, it didn't even bleed! I cleaned and bandaged it for her and she said it didn't even hurt. I saw her about a week later and she said it was a little sore for a day or two but that it was okay!!! She was SO sweet about it and didn't make a big fuss. Needless to say...I NEVER forget my paper piercing tool anymore, and I don't substitute other objects for the proper tools!!!

  46. Love the card, my biggest mishap was when I was first stapling some ribbon onto a card, and wanted to show my DH how totally cool it looked, sure showed him alright, stapled right through my finger..OUCH!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Love your blog and the card is fabulous. I started out with a miss hap 5 weeks ago and am in a thumb and arm brace. You should see me try to cut paper and do cards its a hoot. You could say I'm alittle dangerous with a cutting tool.

  49. Hi Vicki!

I can't wait to see that mystery prize!

    As for stamping mishaps...
how many times have I snipped my finger while trying to cut out the rubber...OUCH!

  50. Hi Vicki- Love reading your Blog...while demoing the Croc-a-dile for a customer a few weeks ago I realized just how strong I really am. I needed to explain that a lighter touch was the way to go. That poor eyelet...smashed!I haven't used the tool in a while and when I pressed I pressed just a bit too much. I then let the customer give it a try. She was sold! Thank God. Suzanne G

  51. My injury list would be way to long for this blog reply. LOL. since I am a klutz I am always doing something weird. The last thing was trying to put an ink pad back together from a stamp camp and it flipped up and left my face bright orange when it hit me. Everyone that was still there bust out laughing. Oh well, what a fun dy.

It is great to read about others that have had funny incidents with no blood. Probably not funny at the time but now can sit back and laugh.

  52. Cool candy. Thanks for offering it up.

My worst injury was using my paper snips to cut ribbon. I was holding the ribbon between my index and middle finger and cut not only the ribbon but a huge V-shaped flap of skin below by knuckle. It didn't even feel it. I'm tying the ribbon and realize my turquoise ribbon is maroon - hmmm. I was bleeding everywhere! Once I noticed the chunk taken out of my finger then it started hurting. I just looked down and yep - still have a scar.
