My Best Friend Jacqui

Well, this is certainly not the most becoming picture of either of us, the rare beauties that we are, nor is it the worse............ummm there are some kicking around of me taking a bite out of a very special cake that Jax made for my Birthday a few years ago.
I just LOVE this woman...........believe it or not, we met online about six years ago and through Stampin' Up! Our paths would have never crossed if we both didn't have a common interest.
I am blessed that if anything, this hobby brought us together.
It's funny how you can get a feeling about a person through cyber correspondance..............I have to tell you that in the time that we've known each other, we've shared laughs, tears, big belly laughs, frustrations, hurt.........well you know, a range of emotions.............and a little silliness too.
Although we live several hours apart, we still manage to see each other a few times a year. We stay in contact over the phone and through email and messenger.
I have been blessed to meet so many wonderful people in the Stamping Community, who have become my friends!
Anyway, I'm going to see Jax tonight!!!! Yay! I'm hoping that we get cut loose a little early from work with it being the Holiday Weekend.................we (Jon's coming too!) should arrive just after dinner and will celebrate Canada Day with she and her Family.
Then we are off to another Dear Friend, Kristi to spend a week with Her, Hanna, Mark and the Dogs! We'll Celebrate our first Independence Day with them! I am very excited about that although I have watched festivities on television, I've never experienced them for real!

Oh, I almost forgot about the card! That's why I'm here isn't it?? lol!!! I purchased this image with my first order from In Style Stamps.
The reason that I purchased this image, apart from it being so darn cute, is that it is called Jax, which is my pet name for Jacqui!

I used Pumpkin Pie as my card base with Kiwi Kiss Accents. Melon Ribbon, DP is from Debbie Mumm and I also used SU Tag, Flower and Border Punches!
I am going to preschedule some posts for while I'm away and hope that they load.
Happy Stamping

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

just like the one's I used to know.........where the treetops glistened and children listened to hear sleighbells in the snow.........Oh man! I can't get Bing (Crosby) out of my head. I've been singing or humming this tune since I started working on my Christmas Card on Saturday. Good thing it's a pretty song.......but erm.............well a couple of people in the house mentioned that perhaps singing Christmas Songs was a little premature!

Sankari has come up with a Fabulous Challenge for us this week, White Christmas.......although she said that we could use hints of colour, the them for the card is predominantly white.

I really like the way this card turned out.........I started a different one with the Christmas Town scene cuttlebug and couldn't get it quite right. After feeling like my brow was getting permanent dents from furrowing and upon tearing the silly cardfront into a gazillion pieces (gee, I hope Santa wasn't watching..........don't temper tantrums put you on the naughty list? ) I cuttlebugged these cute Christmas Ornaments.

They looked a little plain, so I yummied them up with some K&Co and SU half pearls. I used some "Elizabeth" Fibre........yes "Elizabeth".....isn't that Regal!, to ground my sentiment, which is layered onto a punched Scallop Oval (Stampin Up!) of Glorious Gold Metallic Paper.

Hope you'll play along with us this week and check the CSAYL site to see the pretty samples. You can get such an elegant look with white cards!

Happy Stamping!

Our Creative Corner Sketch Challenge

This week, our Hostess Jennifer Meyer presented us with a Sketch Challenge. I wanted to keep this design clean and simple.........I've been trying to acheive a look that I like, using less layers!!!

This sweet little image is Baby Fluer #3 by Janet Klein. You can find this adorable image over at STAMPOTIQUE Originals. As you can see, there's not too much to this card. A base of White, a layer of SU DP (Level one Hostess paper from last year's catty!) and the image layer, that is just coloured with copics and sponged on Neenah White. Olive Ribbon is from Stampin' Up!
I can't seem to get used to the minimalist look though.....it always feels like it's missing something............kind of like when I forget to put my lipstick on!
If you'd like to play along, here's the great sketch! Don't forget to visit my fellow DT's Blogs to see their interpretations of the sketch and the OCC site to link your creation
Happy Stamping!

In Style Stamps Rootin Tootin' Blog Hop!

Today's the day!!! In Style Stamps is releasing some VERY VERY COOL Cowboy images!!!! I have always been a fan of cowboys and all things Western and I absolutely love this image of Nate! I coloured Nate with Copics, adding some white Gel pen highlights! A base of Brocade Blue matches his jeans, Kiwi Kiss and Cuttlebugged and Sponged Really Rust CS compliments the Colours in the DP, which is Boho Chic, but it was in my Scrap bin and I can't recall the company, but it's a couple of years old! I embossed the HB stamp from SU! It's your Birthday in Copper Embossing Powder to compliment the Copper Brads. The Lasso was formed with Hemp Twine ( you might have seen something similar this week ;-p) ) and Sizzix and SU Star Punch outs complete a base fit for a cowboy I think!

Pretty Ava, the Garden Fairy

Well, I suppose Ava can be whatever Fairy that Strikes your fancy, but today she's a garden fairy! The image, Sitting Ava is a digital image from In Style Stamps
What's new is the sweet Shell Bench that acts as the perch for this Pretty Fairy Princess. It's kind of difficult to see in the picture, but I coloured the bench with Copics and painted over a thin coat of Lumiere to give it the pearlescent look of the inside of a Conch Shell. The digi bench image will be available this Friday!

I found the heart shaped notebook at the dollar store........now for the DP! The name of it is really irrelevent, cause I received it at a class at Creating Keepsakes University in Boston Mass about 5 or 6 years ago, so it's long gone! See.......packrat extraordinaire! I printed the sentiment on the computer.

Ava's coloured with Copics......if you're wondering how I get that subtle and soft blend, before applying colour, I put a good coat of colourless blender over the image and then start working in colour gradually. I love the chunky glitter on her wings!!! Because the Bench is pearlescent, I wanted to ensure that her wings had a different texture.

And here's my real garden fairy...........lol.........no in all seriousness, this picture would have been more appropriate on yesterday's post......but I just took it last evening. Mom was heading out to a Oriental themed party last night and asked me to do her hair. Jonathon commented that she looked so pretty and I dashed for my camera. Being very sunny, it was hard to capture her with fully opened eyes, but I love her laugh lines. I look at my mother, who is 69 an can only hope that I am blessed with her Beauty and elegance when I reach her age.
Have a great day!
ISS Blog Hop is up tomorrow!

Introducing Mykai~ an new Digi image from In Style Stamps to be released this Friday~I just love the elegance of this image. You might be wondering how I did the paper piecing with this image. It's really easy! All I did was print the image onto the patterned paper, cut it out and layered over a second image that I had printed and coloured with my Copic Markers! I must admit that I printed the image twice onto the Designer Paper (Making Memories) as the scale of the pattern is moderate in size. If you print onto small scale DP, you should only need to print once.

The card template is from the Life is a Beach Cricut Cartridge......Cool eh? Cardstock is Pink Pirouette from SU and an unknown Green from Bazzil. I coloured the green directly onto the DP with a Mimosa Copic! I added some gold highlights here and there on the card and sponged around the leaves a bit to give some contrast, wheeled a bit of a pattern onto the Pink background and uses Martha Stewart and Stampin' Up! punches to embellish!
Did you know that ISS has a Challenge each Wednesday? This week it's a Red, White and Blue Challenge and you can find it on the ISS Blog
I didn't get a chance to play today, but hop on over there and see what's up! You can also get the links to the DT there and check out there blogs this week for more sneak peeks!!!!
As well, stay tuned for the FRIDAY BLOG HOP ! Lots more fun creations!!!!

For Ethan

Pink Cat Studio is releasing these new digital stamps today to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation in honour of Ethan Wieman. Little Ethan passed away on June 12th from Neuroblastoma Cancer. Ethan was a true cowboy, loved horses, balloons and knock knock jokes. By purchasing these digital images, you will help brighten the day of a sick child as the money that is raised, will go toward making one of their dreams come true. You can follow this link to Pink Cat Studio to contribute to this worthy cause in Ethan's memory and to read about this remarkable little boy.

My eyes filled with tears as I read the words of Ethan's Mother, Alicia.....I know that anyone would be saddened by this touching story, especially those of you that are parents. For those of us who have lost children, the pain of other's losses seem to seep right into the empty space deep inside of ourselves; that place that should be filled with memories as we guide our children into adolescence and adulthood. What I do know is that Heaven has one more Beautiful Angel and I truly hope that Ethan's family finds as much comfort in knowing that he watches over them, as does my Angel Timothy watch over me and Jonathon.

Please help me spread the word of this very worthy fundraiser. I would really appreciate if you could post a link to this post, on your blog. I am offering a twenty dollar gift certificate to Pink Cat Studio for one random winner who leaves me a comment with a link to their blog post.

I will keep choose a winner on Friday June 26, 2009

Thanks so much for Supporting the Make-a-Wish Foundation in Ethan's memory.

Christmas Stamping All Year Long Challenge 22-Anything Goes

I am SO glad anything goes this week!!! It's been a busy busy busy week between Football practices and games, making several tags for Silent Auction Baskets (I'll post them a little later this week), looking at all the entries for Hanna Stamps Guest Designer Competition......well let's just say I have been a little busy to say the least!!!!

I have three blog posts today and was scrambling this evening to come up with a quick card! Well, it really doesn't get any quicker than this. As I mentioned before, I received these sweet card makings from two lovely ladies I met from England at Summer CHA last year. Gillian is a rep for KanBan, which is a very cool company, with beautiful papers, dies cuts and accessories!

All I had to do to complete this card was punch and mount. I added dimension to the post box by cutting out a second one and mounting it on dimensionals. A little Prima Pointsettia and Viola! The card was complete!

Hope you'll play along with us and post your link on the Christmas Stamping Blog
Maria has provided this awesome sketch to get you going! Don't forget to check out the DT's yummy samples!!!!

Come back and visit a little later......... as I said, I have THREE posts today!!!!

Happy Stamping!

The Pink Elephant Challenge #20

I was thrilled to be asked to be a Guest Designer for The Pink Elephant Challenge Blog. Unity Stamps are sponsoring the challenge this week and I am a huge fan of their Kit of the Month Stamps! You get a WHOLE lot of stamps for a great deal each month and I have been very pleased with the images and the quality of the deep etched rubber! The images and sentiment for this card came from the March Kit of the Month
In case you were wondering what the challenge is this month, it's a great sketch by Carol Houghton, one of the Pink Elephant Designers. Hope you'll visit the Pink Elephant Challenge blog to see the awesome creations and play along with us~!
Don't forget to come back today, I have more posts for you!
I almost forgot to tell you how excited I was to play with SU's new in colours! On this card I used Razzleberry, Dusty Durango and Soft Suede. A few dew drops and some machine stitching made this card a very quick and easy one!

Our Creative Corner Star Challenge

The challenge this week for OCC is to use Stars on your card. I had this sweet new Liberty Riley coloured and thought it would be perfect for this challenge. I am thinking that I should have gave his clothes a verdigris colour, 'cause now that I am looking at him, I'm thinking that perhaps he looks more like Julius Caesar than Lady......erm Gent Liberty, but anyway, he's stinkin' cute and was just recently released over at Hanna Stamps

Wait until you see the fabulous cards that the DT has created for you this week! I had a sneak peek when I was uploading and all I can say is WOW!!!!

Please visit the OCC Blog for the details on how you can play along!

Gearing up for a busy weekend! Football finals will occur this weekend (Saturday AND Sunday) along with a trip to see a Theory of a Dead Man contest and Fathers' day of course!!!

Enjoy your weekend!

Score!

You'll be scoring BIG with the Sporty Billy stamp set, released by Pink Cat Studio just last week! Little Billy is such a cutie and quite the athlete!

I picked up this sweet DP last month at M's. It's called Bugs and Butterflies and is from TPC Studio. It's full of bright and fun summer patterns. The base of the card is one of my absolutely favourite colours, Night of Navy, with splash of Soft Sky. Not much more to this card. I coloured with Copics and of course used some various punches as I always do! Thought Billy could use a little friend and added this sweet little Frog Button~

Bloom

When I see the flowers in bloom, I see my Grandmother gingerly tending to her elaborate beds. I can picture her in her yard, plucking the dead tops off the petunias; in the garden thinning the carrots. In her later years, when she wasn't able to bend anymore, my uncle cut the legs down on a Resin Lawn Chair to make her a comfortable seat so that she could continue to spend hours weeding. She always said that she found it relaxing. She didn't seem to take notice of the beads of sweat trickling down her back, the nasty little flies buzzing about; the heat of the noon day sun.

I often wonder what was on her mind all those hours. Was she reflecting on her youth, thinking about Grandpa and Timmy and her brothers and sisters who had passed before her.?Was she generating ideas for the beautiful poetry she scribed. Was that the time of day that she prayed for her family and friends as she did each day.

Each year she tended that garden with care and dedication. .She watched it bloom and grow just as she tended to her Children and Grandchildren, nourishing us with her wisdom, harvesting her family, maximizing our growth with her love.

I wonder what Grandma thought about out in her gardens? I only wish she were still here so that I could ask her.

Recipe: Stamps: Ginger In Style Stamps Unity Stamps (Journaling Box)
Paper: Fancy Pants, K&CO (Lavendar Paper) Lavendar Lace,Eggplant Envy
Accessories: Martha Stewart Border and Fern Punches, Nestabilities, Copics

My Blog Candy Winner from my Saturday Post, drawn Randomly is De who said:

It's Christmas time again and I LOVE it!

I love Christmas! It's probably one of my favourite times of year! I also LOVE the fact that I won't be busting my butt to get my cards done this year! Imagine that............I might have to make a few, but I won't have to shame myself and go out to by them, only to hear "Vicki? how come I didn't get a handmade card" So this year will be different, much much different!!! This week our Hostess Extraordinaire Debbie challenged us to use eyelets on our card!!!! Well I followed the sketch precisely and was quite pleased with this card! The main image is a digi image from Fred she Said...........isn't it adorable! Anyway I made a point of going outside to take the picture. Now that the weather is better I attempt to take outdoor shots as natural light seems to make the creations all that more pleasing to the eye.......... I came in totally excited to have my card completed several days ahead. Downloaded, cropped edited, now just to upload it to the blog!!! Feeling very very competent, as I went in to the site I notice "Debbies eyelet challenge" Debbies EYELET Challenge??? WHAT??? Well at least I had a little room to put a couple of eyelets on! In the two pictures you can see the card with and without! So when you're playing the challenge this week, don't forget the eyelets 'kay??? lol!

I came up with this funky colour combination, eggplant envy, kiwi kiss and not quite navy while looking at the heap of scraps on my creating table! Used to be a dinner table, but now we eat off T.V. Trays..........but then again, who even needs to eat when you can stamp (just kidding, we have a dining table thank goodness). Anyway as I was making a wee space to create, these colours jumped out at me. I like the combo!!!

Again in the spirit of actually using my Cricut Machine, I cut the embossed background from the Storybook Cartridge. I can report now that my Cricut is feeling appreciated! Nesties, Old Olive Ribbon, SU Scallop punches and of course eyelets accessorize this card! The sentiment is from a retired Snowflake set, of which I would tell you the name, but after some vigorous lawn cutting today, I am too lazy to lift myself out of the chair to go and check!

Hop on over to the Christmas Stamping all Year Long Blog to see all the delicious creations.....I've had a sneak peek and they're awesome! You can also link to the DT from my sidebar!

Happy Monday and stamp till you cramp!!!

Marlin says GOOD MORNING! Pink Elephant challenge too!

I've been a little lax on posting the perils of Marlin as of late! But no worries, he hasn't been stuffed into the bottom of my sock drawer. As you can see, he's alive and well and is enjoying his breakfast as we speak~ One thing that Marlin and I have in common is that we're both Bananas over Bananas! Thank goodness there were two, so I didn't have to fight Marlin for it......I would have taken a picture of myself with my Banana.......eh nope, not so cute~!

Anyway one of the reasons that Marlin wanted to show his sweet face this morning was to ensure that his first mama, DIANA GIBBS can be completely comfortable knowing that he is safe and secure in the Garrett Household ( Don't worry Di, the toque is hiding a wee scar from a skateboarding accident, but the doc says that the brain damage should be minimal).
An even BIGGER reason is that we wanted to Congratulate our good friend on winning the Stampin' Up! Artisan award this year! What a special honour. Diana is SO talented that I wasn't surprised to hear that she had won. Congrats Baby! You are the best. Marlin and I are going to have a couple of Tropical 'tini's tonight to celebrate your win!

Since Marlin helped me find my mojo (thanks little buddy ;-p) I have been stamping up a storm. I completed this card for The Pink Elephant Monday Challenge, which was to make a card using Pink and Brown...........the challenge is hosted this week by the Greeting Farm, which has the coolest of images.
This sweet Character is from the Miss Anya Collection! Think she looks pretty in pink? It's all pretty Basic..........Pink Passion, Chocolate Chip, Basic Grey. My favourite yummy wide Satin Ribbon in Chocolate Chip. Coloured with Copics of course! The sentiment is from SU! Circle of Friendship! You have until Midnight tonight (EST) to load up a card for the contest over the the Pink Elephant Blog! The winner will recieve the Digital Anya and Ian Graduates! Good Luck!
Don't forget to enter on my previous post for some blog candy! You never know what' you'll get. To those of you that follow my blog, thanks SO much! It means a lot to know that someone's looking ;-p)
Happy Stamping!

Our Creative Corner! Border Punch Challenge and Blog Candy!

This week Our June Hostess, Jennifer Meyer challenged us to use Border Punches. I LOVE my border punches, ALL of them!!!! But these are the two that I tend to use the most. The winner of this weeks challenge will win a goody bag from Stamps and Smiles . If you play the challenge, don't forget to head on over to the OCC blog and link your creation there. Also, check out the fabulous designs from my fellow designers by following the links on my side bar!

You might be wondering if you're on the right sight if you're looking at this card!!! Elegant is not a style that I do often......and in my opionion it's not the style that I do best, my tendency is to lean toward the cute and sometimes bizarre!!!! So sometimes its very cool to step outside of the box and do something different!

And HEY!!! I think I'm going to make 95,000 hits today!!! Now THAT is exciting............and I was thinking it might be nice to have a little blog candy! Nothing Spectacular, just an assortment of 5 or 6 of my handmade cards with a sweet suprise tucked in.

Would you like to win?? Just leave a comment and i'll choose a random winner on Monday! I'm interested to hear what kind of challenges you would be interested in......which one's inspire you!

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Hanna Stamps Bridal
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Neenah White, Basic Grey Sultry
Acc: Nesties Label and Oval Dies, Martha Stewart Southwestern Border Punch and Mini Hearts and Scallops, SU Pretties kit flowers and pearls, white organdy ribbon and dollar store charm

Hanna Stamps Friday Challenge

Each Friday, one of the talented Hanna Designers hosts a challenge! This week, the lovely Ilina is hosting an inspiration challenge. Get inspired by the funky handbag pictured below and let's see what you can come up with. At our release parties, one participant who played any or all of the challenges can win a free Hanna set of her/his choice!

For my card, I got inspired by the colours in the bag. Then I decided to change Soccer Riley into Soccer Sophie!!! Yep, that's me a REAL stamp Surgeon!!! The card is very simple, I used my Paisley Cuttle bug to imitate some of the pattern in the purse. The CS colours are Pixie Pink, Yo Yo Yellow and Purely Pomegranite, all by SU! I sponged the grass in with Certainly Celery Ink and the Sky with Cool Caribbean! Not a lot else to say about the card, just a clean and simple design!!!!

Hope you'll play along with us!
You can find the details in the Hanna Forum I more than likely beat Ilina to the punch this morning due to the differing time zones, so if it's not there..........it will be~

Father's Day is on the Way!

I thought i'd get a head start on creating my Father's Day Cards. I just have two to make, one for my Father and one for Jonathons' Father. This is Stan one of the cool Retro Images that you can find at In Style Stamps. He is currently on sale, which is a bonus!

I decided to keep the theme of this card Monochromatic, using Basic Grey, Bordering Blue and a little bit of Black for emphasis! The DP is from SU, but for the life of me I can't remember the name, but I know that it's retiring or is retired!!!

I coloured Stan with Copics................Three Shades of Cool Grey for the pants adding a 4th (cool grey 7) for the shoes. The sentiment is from Classic Cars (retired SU set) and the Father from Everyday Flexible Phrases. I created the base for the sentiment with the Small and Large Tag punches from Stampin' Up! Well one more card to go and Father's day will be taken card of........hmmm now if only I could come up with an idea for presents as easily!

This is my second post for the day, don't forget to scroll down to see more!
Have a great weekend!

Totally Inspired

I was TOTALLY inspired while visiting Jennifer Buck's Blog the other day. She's an amazing lady (I had the opportunity to spend some time with her at Winter CHA) and a very talented scrapper!!!
I was a scrapper long before I was a stamper and I'm sad to say that I actually scrap very little anymore and am not so happy about that! I keep telling myself that I'll get back to it, but never seem to. So while visiting Jen's page to see what she was up to, I found a great challenge, which totally inspired me.
Jennifer has such a clean style and hosts a clean and simple challenge each week. This week's challenge was "anything goes".

If you've been visiting my blog lately, this picture will look familiar. I took it at Fort Henry a couple of weeks ago and it's one of my faves of Jonathon........."JON"........

Anyway, I was SO inspired that I created TWO .........yep TWO layouts that day!!! I am watching for Jen's Challenge next week..........thinking that perhaps playing will increase my motivation to get some of those Thousands of pictures Scrapped~!
Recipe:
Cardstock: Prism Baby Blue Light
DP: Crate Paper Static Line plus cardstock die cuts
Stamps: Unity June Kit of the Month
Accessories: Martha Stewart Border Punch, SU Big Brads
Alphabet: Cricut Jasmine

In style Stamps Wednesday Challenge

I am totally thrilled to be a Guest Designer For In Style Stamps! Each Wednesday, one of the talented DT host a challenge. This weeks theme is to create a Beach themed card. I used my Gorgeous Leila digi image to create my summery card. Coloured her with about 35 shades of copics.......lol! and made the beach scene behind her with a nesties die, sponging the sky in with cool carribean and some torn and inked creamy caramel card stock. The paper is from K&CO. Karen Gavin Collection, along with some matching Die Cuts........lot's of flowers and butterflies in this 8x8 pad.
Base cardstock colour is Kiwi Kiss, the accent Ribbon is SU Olive, but it matches perfectly with the Cardstock. I also used a Martha Stewart Border Punch for the Striped accent layer. The sentiment is from Everyday Flex Phrases, a retired but much loved sentiment set!
Won't you play along with the challenge? You can win a prize by completing your project and linking it to today's post on the ISS BLOG Please visit the blog for the full details! Winner is selected randomly from all the entries~~~
Looking forward to see what you've created............

Pink Cat Studio Sneak Peeks, Day Two

There's another great day of Sneak Peeks for you before Sporty Billy is released tomorrow!!! The Design Team Ladies are Rockin' this set! Little Billy is at the bat today. Baseball Billy is one of four images in the Sporty Billy set, which also has a lot of cool sentiments as well as individual numbers so that you can personalize the sports jerseys'. Don't forget to follow the links on the sidebar to Pink Cat and the DT girls to see what else is in store for you!

This image was screaming Vintage and Distressed Vicki! So Lots of Creamy Caramel Ink allowed me to do this. The DP is actually a Christmas Paper from Rusty Pickle, but I thought it suited the theme of the card well. Base cardstocks include SU~! Kraft and Burgandy. The Button is from Foofala and of course the star and Tag punch are from Stampin' up!

Come back tomorrow to see a picture of the entire set!

Happy Stamping!

Christmas Stamping all Year long Challenge 20-Buttons and Ribbons

The challenge this week is brought to you by ME~! Yep, I get to be Hostess Challenge Once a Month and I love it!!!! The challenge is to use Buttons and Ribbons as creatively as you can!!!

If you head over to the main blog Maria has also provided an amazing sketch for you to use, although I didn't use it on this card.

Also, I have two posts today, so don't forget to Scroll down to see my Pink Cat Sneak Peeks!!!

I used my Cricut Christmas Cheer Cartridge.........see I'm following through on getting more creative with that ( 'kay Frances, dig yours out!!! hehe) to cit the Christmas Tree out in Kiwi Kiss Paper............this paper is one of the retiring in colours from Stampin' up! Let me tell you, it's one of my favourites and I just ordered 3 packages as it's just so yummy!!!

I threaded Silver Wire through the Heart Shaped buttons, curling the wire over a Q-tip with one end cut off. I added a few dew drops to fill the empty space. The DP is from SEI.

The sentiment is from the Circle of Friendship set from Stampin' Up! and I punched a couple of ferns, with my Martha Stewart Punch to anchor the sentiment.
How are your Christmas Cards coming?
Don't forget to play the challenge, I'd love to see what you create!
Happy Stamping!
